History

Segard Masurel is an established name in the global wool industry and is a company steeped in history. Dedicated to wool for four generations, the group SEGARD MASUREL is the legacy of two family companies : Segard & Cie and Masurel Fils.

1846

Masurel Fils 1846 l Segard Masurel

MASUREL FILS was founded in 1846 in Roubaix, France. The Masurels’ was a well known family involved in wool trading, topmaking and spinning. At some stage, it even supplied the woollen insigna for Napoleon’s army! MASUREL FILS has expended rapidly in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa…

1891

Flipo & Segard 1891 l Segard Masurel

FLIPO & SEGARD was founded in Tourcoing-France in 1891 by Jules Segard, his brother Emile and their brother-in-law Pierre Flipo. The company was dissolved in 1906, and the three former partners continued their business separately under the names of PIERRE FLIPO, EMILE SEGARD and SEGARD & Cie.

“In those days, my great-grandfather Jules was away for six months at a time, travelling by horse and by boat to buy wool all over the world and supply the European wool industry. Methods have changed a little since then!” says Olivier Segard, CEO of the group.”

1963

Archives Segard Masurel

SEGARD & Cie expanded into England, Spain, Portugal, Uruguay, Australia, South Africa and the United States. The Belgian wool trader LESUR & Cie was acquired in 1963.

1965

Antoine Segard & Cie 1965 l Segard Masurel

In 1965, Jules Segard’s sons, Antoine and Jacques, further divided the company. ANTOINE SEGARD & Cie was officially founded.

1975

ANTOINE SEGARD & Cie acquiert MASUREL FILS en 1975 l Segard Masurel

ANTOINE SEGARD & Cie bought the MASUREL FILS  company in 1975.

2005

2005 Création de Segard Masurel

In tribute to the founding families and to the names that still resonate today in the global wool industry, the group was renamed SEGARD MASUREL in 2005.

2006

Diversification et acquisition d’une opération d’achat en privé à Taupo en Nouvelle-Zélande l Segard Masurel

With the acquisition of a buy-in-private operation in Taupo, New Zealand, the group SEGARD MASUREL is diversifying upstream with direct purchasing, brokering and establishing a direct link with farmers.  Will follow the establishment of Segard Masurel Wool Brokers in South Africa and the acquisition of Grampian Wools in Australia…
