{"id":2608,"date":"2022-08-18T15:55:52","date_gmt":"2022-08-18T13:55:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.segardmasurel.com\/?p=2608"},"modified":"2023-09-12T13:22:33","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T11:22:33","slug":"french-wool-a-guarantee-of-quality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.segardmasurel.com\/en\/french-wool-a-guarantee-of-quality\/","title":{"rendered":"French wool, a guarantee of quality"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"l-section wpb_row height_medium\"><div class=\"l-section-h i-cf\"><div class=\"g-cols vc_row via_grid cols_2 laptops-cols_inherit tablets-cols_inherit mobiles-cols_1 valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p><b>Long side lined, the French wool industry is finally making a comeback, thanks to a number of initiatives in the country and in particular the actions of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.collectiftricolor.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRICOLOR<\/a>\u201d collective.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This inter-professional association brings together a wide range of players in the industry, including sheep farmers, spinning mills, brands, workshops, craftsmen and manufacturers, textile companies and others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The collective&#8217;s aim is to enhance the &#8220;French wool industry in order to increase the amount of wool recovered locally by multiplying the uses of this noble and biodegradable raw material&#8221;. Today, of the 5,300 tonnes produced in France, almost 80% is exported to Asia at derisory prices. Unfortunately, over the last decade, French wool has become a mere shadow of its former self. Burnt, massively exported, and sold off with prices per kilo plummeting from \u20ac1.30 in 2012 to around 10 cents in 2022, French wool is starting to be revalued at its fair value. The good news is <\/span><b>that demand for local wool produced in France is increasing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, particularly from textile brands and companies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this in mind, the \u201cTricolor collective\u201d explains that it plans to increase the proportion of wool produced and processed in France from 4% to 24% by 2024. Wool is a noble material, and its uses extend far beyond the textile industry. It can <\/span><b>be used as fertiliser, insulation or decorative elements<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (curtains, sheets, cushions, etc.) Communicating the versatility of French wool to farmers, brands and textile companies is essential to encourage its use and processing in our regions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>creation of the Laine de France label will bring together all those involved in the industry in France<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as promoting French wool both nationally and internationally. The label will also provide an opportunity to discuss the potential uses of wool that is not used by farmers, with a view to revaluing it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"l-section wpb_row height_medium\"><div class=\"l-section-h i-cf\"><div class=\"g-cols vc_row via_grid cols_1 laptops-cols_inherit tablets-cols_inherit mobiles-cols_1 valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h2><b>The French wool industry on the move: the latest initiatives\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a view to promoting French wool, many farmers throughout the country, from the Lot et Garonne to the Ni\u00e8vre, are already proposing initiatives to try and revive the French wool industry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Markets, days and shows in France<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Numerous days, fairs and events are being organised to promote local initiatives and French wool. One example <\/span><b>is the &#8220;Wool Day in G\u00e9nholac&#8221;, organised by &#8220;Objectif Laine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;, which will take place on 27 August in the Gard region. The aim is to showcase local expertise, with stands selling wool products, workshops, conferences and shearing demonstrations. These initiatives can be found all over France throughout the year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another initiative, set up by the <\/span><b>\u201cAteliers-laines d&#8217;Europe\u201d association<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is a meeting called &#8220;Wool breeders, craftsmen and processors: cooperating for quality products&#8221;.
